Pakistani man misses the point of feminism

Khalil Ur Rehman Qamar is a lauded name when it comes to the Pakistani TV fraternity. He is responsible for such legendary dramas as Pyaar Afzal and Sadqay Tumharay, having won Lux Style Award for Best TV Writer for Pyaray Afzal. His dramas are celebrated so much that people often forget what rampant misogyny they hide.

Mr Qamar recently took part in a podcast to talk about his first Movie Kaaf Kangana, the less we write about this movie the better. But what disturbed me very much were Mr Qamar’s views on women.

According to Mr Qamar, if women want to achieve true equality they should rape men, kidnap men or murder men. In Mr Qamar’s muddled grasp on Feminism, asking for basic human rights and not to be treated as second class citizens is too much to ask for. According to him, He cannot believe in gender equality because Gender equality is un islamic while saying he is greatest feminist of all times. After a question about his newest drama based on extramartial affairs, Mr Qamar claimed that in a couple who cheats the women are the only ones responsible, whether it’s the other woman or the wife. The wife is responsible for being cheated on because she wears makeup when she is a newly wed, i feel confused just typing these statements. Mr Qamar seems to think men are incapable of thought and restrain. Here’s what Pakistani Twitter thinks about it:

While Khalil Ur Rehman Qamar is undoubtedly in the wrong what’s more telling it the silence of the entertainment industry. Early when Firdous Jamal had words to say about Mahira Khan, the whole industry came out in support and to vilify Firdous Jamal. Now silence reigns.
