Defending Champions are back in the game

Defending champions Quetta Gladiators faced two-time champions Islamabad United in the ninth match of PSL at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium last night.

Gladiators had won the toss and elected to field first with Islamabad United batting in the first innings. 

Shadab Khan scored 39 runs off 25 and Colin Ingram 63 off 40.Islamabad United, after settling in the middle overs, lost the plot in the final overs as Tymal Mills’ variations turned out to unsettle the home side.Naseem Shah did some damage with the new ball, removing Luke Ronchi and Dawid Malan quickly in the powerplay. Islamabad managed to give a target of 188 runs with loss of 7 wickets.

The high run-chase was achieved with some handy contributions from Jason Roy (50 off 38) Sarfaraz Ahmed (33 off 20 balls) and Mohammad Nawaz, who remained unbeaten for his 25 off 20 deliveries.Though, the trio of Shane Watson, Ahmed Shahzad and Azam Khan went home disappointed their fans but the job was done by the rest. 

Ben Cutting’s onslaught towards the end powered Quetta to a five-wicket win in a high-scoring game at Rawalpindi. Ben became the man of the match.
